The Pentagon, located in Arlington, VA serves as the headquarters of the Department of Defense. It is one of the world's largest office buildings, housing approximately 23,000 employees, The building was completed on January 15, 1943 after only 16 months of construction. On September 11, 2001 the Pentagon was struck by a terrorist attack in which a passenger airliner was crashed into the building.  A memorial to the victims of the attack was dedicated at the site on September 11, 2008.  Open: Tours of the Pentagon are available to schools, educational organizations and other select groups by reservation only.
